About Dr M. Mathenjwa

Dr Mfundo Mathenjwa [MBBCh, FCP(SA), MMed , Cert Cardiology (SA). Practice number 0750204] is a cardiologist practicing at Netcare Sunward Park Hospital and Life Robinson Private Hospital, Randfontein.

He did his undergraduate Bachelor of Medicine and Surgery degree at University of the Witwatersrand. He subsequently did his Internship, Community Service and Internal medicine training in Durban. He returned to Wits University and Johannesburg Academic Hospital for his cardiology training. He has worked at Lenmed Hospital Kimberley and Pretoria Heart Hospital prior to establishing himself at Netcare Krugersdorp Hospital in 2019.

As an interventional cardiologist he has a particular interest in complex coronary interventions and percutaneous valvular replacement. He has attended numerous teaching and hands-on cardiology workshops in India, France, England, Spain, Romania, Germany and the United States. He is geared towards developing a state-of-the heart cardiology service in Krugersdorp which is non-inferior to the more central private and academic health institutes in Gauteng.

The range of conditions he covers includes heart failure and biventricular pacing. He also treats arrhythmias that would normally involve insertion of permanent pacemakers and implantable cardioverter defibrillators. He works in close association with cardiovascular surgeons who perform coronary artery bypass grafts, valvular replacements and repair of structural heart defects. He refers some patients to electrophysiologists for ablation procedures which are primarily curative for arrhythmias.

He is open to provide telephonic advice to general practitioners, physicians and non-cardiac specialists encountering patients with unfamiliar cardiac pathology.
